Start-up of a third line for the production of heating cables

At the end of January 2009, a third fully automatic line for the production of heating cable insulation and sheathing was successfully installed, and began operation.

A view of the line

The extruder was supplied and installed by a Swiss company, Hodeltech, which is following in the footsteps of the renowned firm which used to be known as Swisscab. The extruder, with its performance of up to 320 kg/hour, a special screw for XLPE and an exchangeable one for PVC, is one of the most modern cable production machines on the market. The extruder head with bypass is from the prestigious Austrian company Unitek.

Other important pieces of equipment in the line are the machine for induction pre-heating of the wire, and a measuring device from Beta Lasermike, the British market leader.

The remaining machine equipment and the execution of the whole investment were provided by domestic companies. The line is primarily constructed for the production of XLPE insulation, jackets and sheaths. Components include a heated trough and a device for drying the cable using hot air. The cable accumulator ensures the continuous exchange of reels during line operation.

The line is fully automatic. Programming and control is ensured via an industrial PC. A touchscreen LCD monitor provides visualization and editing. The process output for each type of cable is stored on a disc and printed as a protocol.

This line is conceived as being universal, and with its start-up the production capacity for Fenix heating cables will increase considerably, which is required by the ever-growing increase in the production of ECOFLOOR heating circuits and heating mats.

In April, investment will continue with the installation of a new extruder for the production of fluoropolymer insulation and sheathing. The new line will also bring the possibility of producing a new type of ultra-thin heating cable with ETFE insulation with the ADSA label.
