Soil heating in greenhouses or heating of livestock buildings

Soil heating in greenhouses or heating of livestock buildings - Ecofloor electric heating cables and Ecosun radiant heating panels, which we have been producing and selling worldwide for 30 years already, have also proved their worth here. They help streamline plant production, protect crops from harsh weather and provide thermal comfort for both the animals themselves and the operators of the breeding facilities.

Radiant panels ECOSUN are divided into two basic ranges: high temperature and low temperature panels. Both ranges are available in different output variations and low temperature panels can be also produced in different RAL colours.

High temperature panels have flat radiating surface, which provides radiation at an angle of up to 180° (so-called hemispherical radiation). The temperature on the surface of the lamellas is approx. 350 °C. This high temperature ensures quite high radiant flux density. Therefore, these panels are designed to be used at places with greater heights
(5 - 8m above the ground).

Low temperature panels also have a flat radiating surface. Unlike high temperature panels, the surface temperature of the radiating surface is max. 110 °C. The radiant flux density is lower, thus recommended height for these panels is 2.5 – 3m above the ground.

ECOSUN radiant heating panels are thus particularly suitable for heating livestock facilities. Such buildings are often too large and poorly (or not at all) insulated, often the temperatures inside are not very different from those outside. For this reason full-area heating would be very expensive from an economic point of view. However we can locally heat spaces where animals are located most of the time and use ECOSUN radiant heating panels as heat sources. Their biggest advantage is without doubt the heat transfered by radiant energy, ie heat flow in the infrared part of the spectrum, which is absorbed to a large degree by the objects and the bodies. It is therefore possible to use suitably oriented sources of radiant heating to achieve a pleasant feeling of warmth but with the lower air temperature in the room. In such cases by the so-called zone heating it’s possible to save more than 50% of heating costs, comparing to classic convection heating. Due to the reduced flow (swirling of the air in the room), the swirling of dust is also limited.

Unlike panels, ECOFLOOR heating cables are actively used for growing fruit and vegetables in greenhouses. The heated soil promotes faster and earlier germination of seedlings, and the harvest itself can also take longer. For this method of heating recommended and already proven power is 100 W/m², higher power is not recommended. Heating cable should be placed so deep into the soil, that it cannot be damaged in any way during planting or harvesting. Cables in the sand bed also cannot cross in any way and the sand or soil itself should not contain any stone chips, etc., which could damage the upper sheath of the cable. Even garden peat must not be in contact with the cable, which could easily become an insulating element and cause the cable to overheat. The Ecofloor ADPSV heating cable with a power input of 10 W/m proved to be the best in practice.
