When heating an interior using radiant panels, we usually aim to heat the entire room evenly and achieve a high level of thermal comfort. From this perspective, there is no significant difference between ceiling and wall installation – both options work reliably and efficiently. The choice of a specific location therefore depends primarily on the size of the room, the required output, the layout and the user’s aesthetic preferences. Each installation method has its own advantages and limitations, which it is worth considering in advance.
Installing radiant panels on the ceiling does not take up space on the walls, which is particularly advantageous in smaller rooms such as bathrooms or toilets. With the right layout, you can heat specific areas – such as a seating area or dining table – and achieve a comfortable feeling without having to heat the entire room. One limitation is the maximum recommended power output of the panels – in standard living spaces, this should not exceed 300 W per panel, to ensure the radiant heat is not uncomfortably intense. Higher power requirements are therefore addressed by using multiple panels.
For wall-mounted installation, panels with a higher output – typically 600 to 850 W – can be used, which makes it possible to heat larger rooms with fewer heaters. The radiant component is lower in this case, so even a higher output does not feel uncomfortable. The convection component of the heating system also helps to ensure an even distribution of heat. One advantage is the option to install the panels beneath windows, where they eliminate cold draughts, or to fit them with rails, allowing the panels to double as towel rails. A disadvantage is the space they take up on the wall and the need to plan the layout of your furniture carefully.
The solution can always be tailored to the specific room and the user’s taste. FENIX Group offers a wide range of ECOSUN radiant panels, including frameless ECOSUN GS glass panels suitable for both walls and ceilings, and ECOSUN CR ceramic panels designed for wall mounting. Design variants with bespoke glass and models with integrated Wi-Fi regulation are also available. This makes it easy to harmonise the heating system with both the functional and aesthetic requirements of the interior.
