The ‘Diamonds of Czech Business’ ranking, which first recognised successful Czech businesses in 2019, is the brainchild of the communications agency COT group, whose media division has long focused on the business environment and on bridging the public, private and academic sectors. The ranking of businesses in the list is traditionally determined by the Diamond Index, which is calculated by Dun & Bradstreet on the basis of objective economic indicators, namely Turnover, Assets, ROE, EBITDA margin and Current Ratio. The assessment always covers the last three years (in this year’s edition, therefore, the years 2021–2023), each year considered separately and weighted differently, with the most recent year carrying the greatest weight. Only companies based in the Czech Republic are included in the ranking; they must have a turnover of between CZK 150 million and CZK 5 billion, have publicly available financial statements for the last three years, and be at least 50 per cent Czech-owned. Excluded from the assessment are businesses in liquidation or insolvency proceedings, businesses registered as unreliable payers with outstanding debts to the state or other entities, as well as businesses operating in specific business sectors – financial institutions, arms manufacturers, producers and distributors of motor fuels and other fuels, betting agencies and gambling operators.
