Heating in new-build homes: what makes sense today

Miroslav PETR
16.04.2026

The guest on the Eurocast podcast was Miroslav Petr from FENIX Trading, who summarised the key issues in modern building heating. During the interview, it was noted that there is no universal ‘best’ heating system – it always depends on the type of building, its heat loss, regulatory requirements and overall costs. In renovation projects, heat pumps often fail due to poorly designed systems, whilst in today’s very well-insulated new-builds, heat consumption is so low that investing in complex and expensive technologies may not make economic sense.

A great deal of attention has been paid to radiant electric systems, particularly underfloor heating and radiant panels. These offer high thermal comfort, even heat distribution, precise room-by-room regulation and minimal maintenance requirements. The savings do not come about ‘by magic’, but because the pleasant sensation of warmth allows the house to be heated to a lower air temperature. It is precisely decentralisation, simplicity and a long service life that are the main reasons why electric radiant systems can be not only a comfortable but also a cost-effective choice in modern homes. The full interview provides a detailed and easy-to-understand explanation – we recommend watching it in its entirety here: - Why are expensive systems in new-build homes often useless?
