The results show that all measured values are well below the permissible limits.
Interest in electric heating systems, particularly large-scale ones (underfloor heating and Ceiling heating), is constantly growing. With this increase in demand, there has recently been a rise in customer enquiries regarding the health risks associated with long-term exposure to so-called ‘electromagnetic smog’.
In response to these enquiries, FENIX commissioned a test to determine the exact electromagnetic field levels of its products. The measurements were carried out by the Electrotechnical Testing Institute, s.p. in Prague-Trója; the products tested were a single-core heating cable with protective braiding (PSV 10W/m), a two-core heating cable with protective braiding in a mat, model LDTS 160/1, the ECOFILM F 1008 heating foil, and the ECOSUN 600U radiant panels (the heating element is a foil) and 700U (the heating element is a resistance cable).
All products were tested for electromagnetic compatibility; interference voltages and interference power levels were measured in relation to the mains frequency, and, in particular, the intensity of the electromagnetic field was measured with regard to human exposure. The measurements complied with European technical standards (EN 62233, EN 55014-1), which are the only regulations in force in the EU specifying precise methods, measuring instruments and permitted limits.
The results show that all measured values are well below the limits set by the applicable standards (see the attached reports). One interesting finding, for example, is that the resulting values for single-core and twin-core heating cables are almost identical; this is despite the widespread belief that, in terms of so-called ‘electromagnetic smog’, single-core cables are many times worse than twin-core cables. The highest electromagnetic field values were measured for the ECOSUN 600 U radiant panel; however, even in this case, the value was a mere 2.3 per cent of the permitted limit.
It is therefore clear from the measurement results that the installation of electric heating systems in living spaces does not, under any circumstances, expose users to intense electromagnetic fields associated with health risks.
