Ancillary services

Ancillary services (SVR) and commercial flexibility represent a significant source of additional revenue from the operation of battery storage. These services are usually provided through a flexibility aggregator, which trades available capacity on the relevant markets and manages the operation of the facilities in line with the current needs of the electricity system.

The investor then receives a share of the revenue generated. We have extensive practical experience in providing these services through our battery storage facilities.

Why choose our batteries for ancillary services?

Proven technology
Proprietary software
Online monitoring
Exceptional service
Experience gained from our own projects
The backing of the strong FENIX company

In a real-world project, a payback period of up to 4 years

Results verified in real-world operation.

Since 2025, we have been operating our own 3 MWh storage facility, which is connected to the system in the Ancillary services mode. This enables us to monitor current market developments and the returns from providing various types of services. Drawing on this experience, we can help clients design the optimal solution.

We have two service teams covering the
whole of the Czech Republic

Two service teams covering the whole of the Czech Republic ensure the reliable operation of our facilities. Thanks to online monitoring, we are able to remotely identify the causes of any problems and carry out a rapid service intervention, which brings the storage facility back into operation with minimal downtime.

FENIX: 36 years of tradition

FENIX has been operating as a family-run business since 1990. The company’s primary aim has always been to put customer satisfaction first. Our clients can therefore rest assured that we approach every project with the utmost responsibility.

A personal tour of Jeseník

Since May 2025, FENIX Group has been providing power balancing services via its own battery storage facility in Jeseník. The facility has a power output of 1 MW and a capacity of 3 MWh. Day-to-day operations provide us with valuable practical experience and enable us to collect our own operational data.

Those interested in implementing a similar project are welcome to visit the operational facility in Jeseník to see it in action, learn about its operation and get answers to all their questions.

Connection to a flexibility aggregator

Our team will handle the technical aspects of communication and the subsequent exchange of data and commands in accordance with the requirements of the specific flexibility aggregator.

Construction readiness

The system is usually installed on pre-prepared concrete footings or strip foundations, raised to a height of approximately 30 cm above the surrounding ground level. Earthing strips are also laid as standard during the preparation of the foundations. Depending on the orientation of the equipment, protective conduits containing the appropriate cabling must be routed to the connection point. The detailed design of the site preparation must always be discussed in advance; where applicable, the design is specified in the project documentation.

When selecting the location for the equipment, in addition to the specified clearance distances, it is also necessary to assess the access options for transport and handling equipment.

Each case must be assessed on a case-by-case basis; however, as a general rule, we complete the commissioning of ancillary services for connected storage systems within approximately 2–3 months. The entire project, from ordering the Battery storage system, through to project design, including site preparation, can take up to one year, depending on the progress and speed of the relevant approval processes (planning permission, connection of the storage facility by the distribution system operator, and registration with ČEPS).

An aggregator collects data, content or output from many different smaller sources and combines them into a single large aggregate. These sources may include Battery storage facilities, but also renewable energy sources or conventional power stations. It acts as the link between the battery storage operator and ČEPS, which, as the national authority responsible for ensuring the operation of the transmission system, requests so-called ‘plus’ and ‘minus’ services in response to the current market situation regarding generation and consumption. The provider is remunerated for reserving your Battery storage facility and also receives remuneration for individual ‘activations’, i.e. the supply of or withdrawal of electricity to or from the grid. The aggregator, at the customer’s discretion, ensures the participation of Battery storage systems in ČEPS auctions and subsequently issues commands to the Battery storage system as to whether to supply electricity to the grid or, conversely, to draw it from it. For this reason, the SOC (state of charge) level is usually within the optimal range of 50–60 per cent.

Yes. We have extensive first-hand experience with ancillary services, as we were among the first to commission our own 1MW/3MWh ancillary services storage facility at our production plant in Jeseník, so we know exactly what needs to be done. Within the FENIX Group, we have a whole team working on these projects.
