It reliably prevents ice from forming in gutters and downpipes

Protecting roof gutters and downpipes with ECOFLOOR heating cables prevents ice build-up and blockages, thereby ensuring the smooth flow of water even in winter conditions. This also prevents potential damage to the roof and façade and extends the building’s lifespan.

Method of installing heating cables

Automatic operation ensures energy savings

ADPSV heating cables, featuring a protective braid and UV protection, switch on automatically depending on conditions when used with a suitable regulation unit (which monitors both temperature and humidity). The system only operates when it is actually needed, which significantly reduces energy consumption and running costs. At the same time, as a homeowner, you benefit from greater safety and peace of mind – the risks of ice build-up, damage to property or even danger to pedestrians are eliminated, without you having to manually control or monitor anything.

Functions of ECOFLOOR heating cables

High durability and long service life

ECOFLOOR ADPSV heating cables are encased in a robust protective sheath with double UV-resistant insulation. This makes them highly durable and ensures they have a long service life. They can withstand damp, frost (including repeated cycles of thawing and freezing), prolonged exposure to low temperatures and mechanical stress. They will therefore remain fully functional in gutters and downpipes for many years without requiring any maintenance.

Frequently Asked Questions about Heating Cables for Gutters and Downpipes

ECOFLOOR heating cables prevent water from freezing in gutters and downpipes, which occurs particularly during alternating periods of frost and thaw. Frozen water can cause gutters to warp, damage the façade or lead to dangerous icicles falling. Electric heating ensures a smooth flow of water and protects both the building and people in the vicinity.

The system is regulated automatically by temperature and humidity sensors. The heating cables are only activated when the conditions for ice formation are met – that is, low temperature and the presence of moisture. This ensures that operation is economical, reliable and requires no operator intervention.

ECOFLOOR heating cables are suitable for virtually all types of buildings fitted with eaves and gutters. Even on well-insulated roofs, snow melts as a result of sunlight. The runoff water can then freeze on the shaded side, causing the drains to become blocked and the water to start overflowing from the gutter. The cables can be installed in both plastic and metal eaves and downpipes, soffit gutters or roof valleys. They are also used to protect the metal flashing at the edges of roofs beneath snow guards, where accumulated snow could become dislodged and slide off. The solution itself is always designed on a case-by-case basis, depending on the shape of the roof and climatic conditions.

In our climatic conditions, heating elements with a power rating of 40 W/m are usually installed in gutters and downpipes; at altitudes of 1,000 metres above sea level or higher, a power rating of 60 W/m or even more is used (subject to an assessment of local conditions). A cable with a power output of 20 W/m is used, laid side by side two or three times within the gutter or downpipe to achieve the required power output of 40–60 W/m. Laying the cables side by side covers a larger area than if a 40 W/m cable were used, running through the gutter just once. Gutter clips are used to secure the cables in the gutter, whilst downpipe clips are installed in the downpipes on a plastic chain or steel wire. Both gutter and downpipe clamps are installed approximately 25–30 cm apart. On roofs, the cable is installed using the ‘zigzag’ method at intervals such that the power density is approximately 200 W/m². With a 20 W/m cable, 10 metres of cable should therefore be looped per square metre of roof. At altitudes of 1,000 metres above sea level or higher, the power input increases to 250 W/m². It is also extremely important not to overlook the regulation specifically designed for frost protection. These are thermostats that not only detect temperature but also the presence of snow or water directly in the eaves or gutter.

You can control heating cables for protecting gutters and downpipes using these thermostats of ours

Regulation systems for outdoor applications, such as the protection of gutters and downpipes, monitor and evaluate specific parameters – for example, they measure not only temperature but also humidity. They also feature non-standard temperature measurement ranges, greater resistance of the temperature sensors, resistance to humidity, a higher IP rating, and so on.
