Separation membranes are used in floor constructions carried out using the so-called ‘wet process’ to prevent water and moisture from the fresh screed from penetrating into the floor structure. The grid-patterned separation membrane is designed specifically for applications with electric underfloor heating – the membrane prevents screed from seeping into the insulation, whilst the printed grid significantly facilitates the installation of ECOFLOOR heating cables.
The separation membrane is laid directly onto the thermal insulation, with an overlap of 5–10 cm at the edges and extended up to a height of approximately 10 cm where it meets adjacent vertical structures. During installation, all joints must be thoroughly sealed with adhesive tape to prevent screed from seeping under the separation membrane. Fixing elements for heating cables (e.g. plastic clips) that pass through the separating membrane into the thermal insulation do not require additional sealing. Only if a fixing element is removed for any reason should the remaining holes in the foil be sealed with adhesive tape.
