This is also why a composition comprising extruded polystyrene underlays was submitted to the Norwegian certification body NEMKO for the certification of ECOFILM heating foils. The installation and operation of ECOFILM heating films are not conditional upon the use of these underlays; however, FENIX recommends this solution as it corresponds to the certified assembly.

STARLON insulation is available in two thicknesses – 3 and 6 mm. A thicker layer of insulation provides better thermal insulation and makes it easier to install the thermostat’s floor sensor, connecting wires and film connectors; however, it also increases the thickness of the structure. You should also check with your floating floor supplier to see whether their installation instructions specify the thickness of the levelling underlay.
