For standard building heating systems, it is advisable to opt for programmable thermostats to ensure energy-efficient operation; however, there are applications where the simplicity of analogue thermostats has its advantages. These are usually spaces where there is no transition between comfort and standby modes, but where a constant or minimum temperature is maintained at all times. A typical example is frost protection in a warehouse, where the thermostat simply prevents the temperature from falling below a set value.
