Just as thermostats measure temperature, hygrostats measure the relative humidity of the air in the room in which they are installed. They usually have a changeover contact, so they can be used to maintain both maximum humidity (when the set value is reached, they switch on heating, ventilation or dehumidification) and minimum humidity (when the humidity falls below the set value, they switch on humidification). Hygrothermostats measure not only humidity but also temperature. They are equipped with two independent changeover contacts, so they can control both humidity and temperature simultaneously.
