It was this family-run winery that turned to ACSO, a French subsidiary of the FENIX Group, in search of a reliable solution to combat the devastating spring frosts. The result is a long-term installation of ECOFLOOR ADPSV heating cables directly in the vineyard – a solution that today helps to protect the harvest in one of the world’s most prestigious wine-growing regions.
Spring frosts are among the greatest threats to winegrowers. Even at temperatures below −2 °C, young buds are damaged, which can lead to a significant drop in the harvest. This is precisely why the Phlipaux winery sought a solution that would be reliable even under extreme conditions, sustainable in the long term and easy to operate. The ECOFLOOR ADPSV heating cables met these requirements.
The heating cable, secured along the trellis wire, heats the fruiting branches (those bearing fruit). When installed in this way, the cable heats the buds on the trellis wire by direct contact and the buds on the vine trunk by radiation. This protection system is compatible with ‘cordon de Royat’, ‘Guyot’ and ‘Vallée de la Marne’ pruning styles.
The implementation at the Champagne Phlipaux Père et Fils vineyard has, for almost 10 years, demonstrated that ECOFLOOR ADPSV electric heating cables represent a modern and effective solution to the climatic risks faced by winegrowers both here and abroad. The 2017 project is now one of the case studies illustrating a growing trend – winegrowers across Europe are discovering the potential of electric vineyard protection as a reliable tool for maintaining both the quality and volume of production.
