The battery storage facility in Jeseník enhances the stability of the Czech grid

In the spring of 2025, the FENIX Group put a battery storage facility with a capacity of 1 MW and 2.4 MWh into operation in Jeseník. The aim of the project is to provide power balancing services for the transmission system operator ČEPS. The project serves not only as a commercial installation but also as a reference solution for verifying the technical parameters, operational reliability and economic viability of large-scale battery storage facilities.

With this installation, the FENIX Group has become a standard provider of ancillary services, with the Battery storage system responding in real time to the demands of the transmission grid. The system is capable of rapidly feeding energy into the grid or, conversely, storing it during periods of surplus. The aim in selecting the chosen output and capacity was not to offer the lowest price, but to achieve maximum efficiency and usability in real-world operation. The experience gained from this project is intended to serve as a basis for offering similar solutions to other customers.

Power balancing services play a key role in ensuring the stability of the electricity grid and preventing large-scale blackouts. Maintaining a stable grid frequency requires a very rapid response to fluctuations between electricity generation and consumption. It is precisely battery storage systems which, thanks to their flexibility, are becoming one of the most effective tools for balancing these fluctuations whilst facilitating the integration of renewable energy sources into the grid.

" The battery storage facility in Jeseník enables rapid grid regulation and paves the way for further projects in the field of ancillary services. "

FENIX Group’s Battery storage enables the provision of both positive and negative power balancing services – that is, both the supply of energy to the grid and its rapid energy storage. According to Cyril Svozil Jr., these solutions also offer significant economic benefits for businesses, which can reduce their operating costs through efficient energy management. The project in Jeseník is also an important step towards the future development of the aggregation of ancillary services and the wider integration of Battery storage systems into the Czech energy sector.
